Now that the heat is receding, kids are back in school and airfares are starting their seasonal drop, it’s a great time to travel: so why not think about the still-sunny West Coast? As part of our End of Summer West Coast tour sale, you can explore one of our favorite cities – Las Vegas – and the wealth of fun diversions it offers beyond the flashing lights and easy lures of its casinos. Here’s just a sample of what you can find when you walk away from the roulette table!

The Shows

Everyone knows Las Vegas is the place you go to see headliners like Celine Dion, Garth Brooks, Elton John, Barry Manilow, and Rod Stewart, who all play multiple (and often sold-out) shows throughout the year. Or if you’d rather laugh than listen to crooners, check out regular Las Vegas comedic performers like David Spade, Joan Rivers, and Tim Allen. But for us, the must-see shows are the Las Vegas mainstays. If you’re looking for a quintessential Vegas experience, you can sample the Jubilee Show at Bally’s, with its elaborate sets, musical numbers, and showgirls. Stunning acrobatics and athleticism become art in the work of the Vegas tour-de-force Cirque du Soleil with their amazing duo of shows on the Strip, KA and O; a Russian ice circus comes to the desert in the exciting new show ICE; magic still reigns in the nightly performances of illusionist Steve Wyrick and Lance Burton; and more unique entertainments await at the Comedy Pet Theater and Naughty Boys Hypnosis Show. There really is something for everyone!

The Food

Jettison all of those preconceived notions about 24-hour-all-you-can-eat-buffets (although they certainly do exist, and can be very tempting during a late-night gambling session…) But what many visitors may not realize is that Sin City is actually a culinary hotspot. In fact, look at any restaurant listing for the metropolis, and you’ll find a veritable “who’s who” of the chef world. From long-time celebrity masters like Wolfgang Puck, Bobby Flay, Mario Batali, Emeril Legasse, Tom Colicchio, and Todd English, to Michelin star favorites like Joel Robuchon, Julian Serrano, Guy Savoy, Alessandro Strata, Charlie Palmer, and Daniel Boulud, there’s something for even the most discriminating palate. (The one that intrigues us the most? Aureole Restaurant, where haute cuisine meets a four-story glass wine tower, and “wine angel stewards” fetch your vintage by moving through the air via harnesses and wires. Their efforts more than merit the tip you’ll leave afterwards!)

The Hotels

They’re not just places to sleep, or to try your hand at the blackjack tables at the in-house casino. No, many hotels on The Strip offer unique and wonderful amenities and attractions that will entertain, amaze, and even thrill you! Take a gondola ride through a replica of the Grand Canal in Venice at The Venetian. Wonder at the illuminated fountain shows and the stunning Dale Chihuly glass ceiling sculpture at The Bellagio. Enjoy the trapeze antics of performers at Circus Circus. Ride a rollercoaster and experience its heart-stopping twists and turns at New York New York. Stop by Treasure Island’s Buccaneer Bay for the free Sirens of TI show, featuring singing beauties, dancing pirates, and pyrotechnics. Be swept to the top of an exact half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower at the Paris Las Vegas for some unforgettable views. Where else in the world can you get this variety of attractions along one 4-mile section of street?

The Shopping

If it weren’t for the casinos, Las Vegas would probably be considered one big shopping mall. In fact, on The Strip alone, there are more than 16 malls, many of which are attached to the larger casino/hotels. At the Via Bellagio, do a little window peeping at Tiffany & Co., Chanel, Armani, and Prada. At the Wynn Esplanade, browse high-end boutiques like Oscar de la Renta, Dior, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Manolo Blahnik. Or the bargain hunters among you can venture off on a trip to the Las Vegas Fashion Outlets in Primm, Nevada, where more than 100 outlet stores await you with heavily discounted prices! After all, you’ve got to spend your casino winnings somewhere.

The Wonders of the World…Right at your Doorstep

While it would seem that the center of all activity is the Las Vegas Strip, just outside of the city, other, more natural wonders await you. Take a trip to explore the beautiful scenery and ancient Native American wall etchings on a Red Rock Canyon tour. Or venture a bit further out to visit one of the great must-see destinations of a lifetime, the Grand Canyon. (Try either a West Rim Canyon tour, run by the Hualapai tribe and home to the famous glass-bottomed Skywalk, or a South Rim Canyon tour, to experience iconic vistas and centuries-old canyon trails.) Go white water rafting on the Colorado River. See one of the great feats of 20th Century American engineering and then enjoy a relaxing lunch on the water with a Hoover Dam and Lake Mead boat cruise adventure. Or simply watch the sun rise over Nevada’s vast desert landscape on an unforgettable Las Vegas Hot Air Balloon Ride.

With all of these temptations, AND the thrill of world-class gambling, how can you go wrong with a Las Vegas vacation? So book your trip now while our End of Summer West Coast tour sale lasts!
