Happy 144th Birthday, Canada!

Too often at this time of year we forget the Canadians. While on the Fourth of July Americans are busy at barbecues, parades and concerts, lighting fireworks late into the night, and generating lots of noise about declaring their independence from the British in 1776, many forget that just a few days before, Canadians are celebrating the birth of their country, too. (What’s a Canuck got to do to get a little attention, eh?)

It seems like the whole world watched Prince William marry his commoner bride (and media darling) Kate Middleton, and the biggest news right now is their upcoming tour of Canada, a country perhaps best known for exports like maple syrup, hockey, and international teen sensation and hair trendsetter Justin Bieber. Responding to an invitation by the government of Canada, the royal couple will be conducting an official tour of Canada from June 30 to July 8, attending myriad festivities and giving royal addresses in this, Kate’s first official trip as a Princess.
