As hard as it may be to believe, another year has just about flown by. 2013 has brought us good things, bad things, and wonderful-but-crazy things such as the promise of a USB cable that can be plugged in either way (we know you want it). So why not end it with a bang?
The opposite coasts of the United States play host to two of the biggest New Year’s bashes on the planet, and these wildly different events have a lot to offer those looking to welcome 2014 in with style. We’ve compiled a rundown of the celebrations that are taking place in New York and Las Vegas to help you figure out which party is your party!
The world-famous ball-dropping in Times Square is the classic New Year’s extravaganza, and it has gotten rather interactive this year. Guests throughout the year who were able to visit the Times Square Museum and Visitors Center wrote their wishes on the confetti that will be used during the New Years celebration. Those who didn’t have the chance to get there or cannot visit in person can still post on the official Wishing Wall website to get their dreams for the coming year into the tumbler as well.
Additionally, the official Times Square New Year’s Eve app will allow people in the square on the night of December 31 to upload pictures that may show up the giant Toshiba sign directly below the Times Square Ball.
More than one million people show up for the ball-dropping, so planning ahead is a must: dress warmly, be sure you have transportation squared away, and get there early if you want an up-front seat. If you’d rather not do all the planning and prep yourself, you may want to check out our Times Square Countdown Tours!
As one might expect, things are a little crazier in Vegas. While the NYC party is about making wishes and camraderie in the freezing cold, New Year’s Las Vegas shifts the focus to clubs, concerts, and circuses.
Many of Las Vegas’ famous shows are having special performances for the holiday, including Chris Angel, David Copperfield, Jersey Boys, Cirque du Soleil, Michael Jackson ONE, Mystere, and many more.
Vegas’ hottest clubs are also throwing parties of their own, featuring the hottest DJs and musical guests. Some highlights from the club scene include:
- Club TAO – special performance by Miguel
- The Bank – T-Pain, Icona Pop and Common
- 1OAK – Major Lazer and J. Cole
- Haze – Pauly D and surprise guest
- Revolution – Boyz II Men
